Did you know that British people are so busy with their daily lives that they literally don’t have time to clean?! One in every third household has a cleaner coming and doing the work for them; therefore the UK came 5th globally in terms of the number of employees working as cleaners, which is almost 1mln people. But did you know there are some cleaning tricks and hacks you could try at home?

The research showed that on average, since the pandemic, we clean our houses more regularly and spend more on cleaning tricks and hacks products than before, which is £150 a year. Quite a significant amount, don’t you think?!

But what if I told you that there are plenty of products in your fridge or cupboard or even bathroom that can be used to clean your house with the same effect as the expensive cleaning brands? Read below for our cleaning tricks and hacks.

Best Cleaning Tricks and Hacks to try at home

Here is a list of just a few of the products, how to use them and what they will do:

Lemon it has anti-bacterial properties and helps to disinfect surfaces and great cleaning tricks and hacks you can definitely try out. Cut your lemon in half, rub it against your kitchen top, wait 30 sec and you are ready to wipe it down clean. You can also clean your microwave with lemons. Take a glass of water, add some lemon juice and microwave it for about 5min. Wipe it down, and your kitchen is not only clean but smelling fresh as well.

Bananawho knew that banana peel could polish your silver as well as your leather shoes. So next time make sure to use this as your cleaning hack if you have a guest coming over for one of your fancy dinners and you want to show off your silver cutlery, grab a few bananas and use the peel to polish it. Use the rest of the bananas to make some delicious dessert.

Ketchup – if you have any tarnished or corroded brass ornaments and you want to bring back their shine, no problem at all. Just grab a bottle of ketchup from your fridge, soak it in for 10 min and voila – the brightness is back, what else can be simple as cleaning tricks and hacks?

Mouthwash – as it is antiseptic and can be used to clean floors. That was news to me as well; But if you add a cup of mouthwash to every 4.5 litres of water, you are ready to go and have your floors cleaned.

Toothpaste – Another incredible cleaning hack is a small amount of toothpaste, you can clean all your silver jewellery and get rid of those black marks. Just rub it gently into the silver and leave it to soak in warm water for a good couple of minutes. After wiping down, it will look brand new. I’ve tried it, and it works, believe me! Also, toothpaste is an abrasive substance, so if you find any permeant marker drawings on your wall after your kids had a play date, simply apply it, wait a few moments, and all the marks are gone.

Soda Water – Red Wine stains on your blouse or carpet are a nightmare. Yes, we’ve all been there, done that. A quick cleaning Tricks, but if you act fast (!), pour soda water over the stain and dub it with a clean cloth. But DO NOT ever RUB IT IN, as it won’t help; it can only make it worse.

Newspaper – yes, you heard it right. You can use your newspaper to clean your windows, mirrors and glass doors using a solution made of rubbing alcohol, a few drops of dish soap and vinegar (find out more about vinegar in my next Fast Facts, so make sure you read and follow all the cleaning tricks and hacks to experience more).

After making a mixture spray it onto the glass and clean it. You will be surprised by how clean and shiny it is. But before you do that, make sure you give your husband a sports section to read it.

As you can see for yourself, there are plenty of ways of using your daily household products to make your home perfectly clean. You are not only saving money, as you probably already have them at your home, but at the same time, you are helping to reduce the Carbon Footprint co2e
